General GBConnected™ WMS Questions:

Q.  How does the GBConnected™ WMS work?
A.  The GBConnected™ WMS is installed on the same Web hosting space as your Web site (see Technical Specifications for details) and your existing Web site pages are configured to be managed by the GBConnected™ WMS.

Q.  Do I need special software to manage the content of my Web site?
A.  Not at all. Once having implemented the GBConnected™ WMS, all you will need is a browser to manage your Web site.

Q.  Do I need to install any software on the Web hosting server?
A.  The GBConnected™ WMS needs to be installed in a Microsoft IIS Web hosting environment, which comes standard with Microsoft's server operating systems, and SQL 2000 is required as the database management system. See Technical Specifications for more details.

Q.  Is access to GBConnected secure?
A.  Yes, users access the GBConnected™ WMS administrative interfaces by submitting their respective username and password to a secure login form.

Q.  What is a template and how can the GBConnected™ WMS reduce time spent formatting and editing content?
A.  The template is a pre-designed format of text and images used to display the elements surrounding the content of a page.  You can create new or reuse existing pre-designed templates using the template builder module.  The template module allows you to take full advantage of a well-structured navigation system and cutting edge web development standards. Utilizing div tags and cascading style sheets (CSS), the template is created without the use of tables or in-document style elements.

Q.  I've added a new domain name for my site, why won't pages resolve?
A.  When you point a new domain name to your server you should also add a reference to it using the admin console in the Web site module.

Q.  Does the GBConnected™ WMS support XHTML?
A.  The GBConnected™ WMS does indeed support eXtensible HyperText Markup Language (XHTML).  XHTML is the next generation of HTML and is a hybrid between HTML and XML.

GBConnected™ WMS Enterprise Edition Questions:

Q.  Will integrating the GBConnected™ WMS Enterprise Edition mean redesigning our Web site?
A.  If you prefer the GBConnected™ WMS can be integrated into your existing Web site design, or the deployment of the application can be paired with a complete re-design.

Q.  What types of organization can benefit from the GBConnected™ WMS Enterprise Edition?
A.  Any organization that wishes to:
  • Eliminate the need for outsourcing Web site modifications.
  • Eliminate the reliance of internal knowledge in the area of Web programming.
  • Eliminate the need for Web site maintenance software, and training courses.
  • Reduce time spent formatting and editing content.
  • Publish both content and structural changes to the Web site in a timely manner.
  • Deploy a scaleable Web site backbone that will accommodate future Web site initiatives.

Any organization that wishes to increase their Web site's traffic, by using such tools as:
  • The Posting Email Service, which will allow you to notify your Web site subscribers of important Web site updates via a branded HTML email;
  • The Metatag Editor, to better your Web site's positioning with major search engines by associating your Web site pages with relevant distinct key words;
  • Take advantage of Web 2.0 capabilities: RSS, Blog, Forums, etc.

Q.  Can the GBConnected™ WMS Enterprise Edition be deployed on an Intranet?
A.  Yes.  GreenButton will assist with the integration and deployment of the GBConnected™ WMS, whether your organization internally hosts your Web site or outsource to an external Web host.

Q.  Does the GBConnected™ WMS support SSL?
A.  Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) works by using a private key to encrypt data that's transferred over the SSL connection.  By convention, URLs that require an SSL connection start with https: instead of http:. The enterprise edition will indeed support SSL, and as a minimum security layer GreenButton will deploy the application behind this layer.

GBConnected™ WMS Downloadable Edition Questions:

Q.  I've downloaded the zip file, what do I do next?
A.  The next step is to unzip and upload the contents of the zip file to the root of your Web site. Your hosting provider will give you the FTP info necessary to login and upload your files.  Once the files are uploaded you will be able to browse the setup.asp file that will guide you during the rest of the installation.

Q.  What kind of information do I need to gather from my web-hosting provider?
A.  Your hosting provider will provide you with the database server name, database name, database username, and database password.  The database server name may simply be an IP or a domain name.  The database name is the name of the SQL Server 2000 database created by the hosting provider.

Q.  Why does the installation wizard ask me to specify an admin user?
A.  In order to take advantage of the GBConnected™ WMS you must be able to log into the admin console using your username and password.  When the wizard is finish you should be redirected automatically to the login screen.  You can access the admin console at anytime by browsing to the 'gb' folder.  Ex: www.mydomain.com/gb

Q.  What is the web site information used for?
A.  The installation wizard will prompt you to identify the user group name, Web site name, default sender email Address, mail server name, and the index server catalog name.  The GBConnected™ WMS allows you to manage multiple sites.  The user group name is used for admin purposes and allows you to group specific Web sites together.  The Web site name that you specify during the installation is used to create your first Web site.  The Web site name will appear in the title bar of the browser when the Web site is browsed.   The default sender email Address is used for sending out system generated email such as reminders and alerts sent to admin members.  The mail server name is used to configure mail delivery by the WMS application.  Your hosting provider should be able to provide you with an SMTP server name or an IP address.  The index server catalog name is optional but provides a powerful search option for users searching documents on the Web site.

Q.  Why am I getting a permission denied or operation not allowed error message when I try to create a page or upload a file?
A.  Some hosting providers require that you specify which folders will have write access.  For the application to function properly, it requires 'script execute' and 'write' permission for the entire site.

Q.  Why am I receiving errors messages such as a 403 error response when uploading large documents or creating large web pages?
A.  The AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed property of IIS 6 has a default value of 200000 Bytes (approx 200kb).  You may need to ask your hosting provider to increase this value to a more acceptable range such as 10485760 Bytes (10 Megabytes) or more.
